So I have just finished an interview for a ‘delicious’ job, which great guns and I’m walking in the air. I landed it, I tell myself; nothing can go wrong now. Besides, I also had great references. But is it really as simple as that?

Unfortunately, no. Parameters such as your academic record, work experience and your ability to lead a time do matter, but the list doesn’t doesn’t end there. More and more employers are resorting to pre-employment screening lately. And with good reason, too.

Pre-employment screening comprises, mainly, background checks, psychometric testing as well as testing for drug abuse. Employers are nearly unanimous in their opinion and pre-employment screening is a sure-fire way to avoid long-term costs in the form of re-hiring, absenteeism and even litigation costs, should the new employee damage the company’s reputation and services in any way.
