According to their web site, “Blog Catalog is the premiere blog directory on the internet”. Quite a boast you might think, but BlogCatalog are certainly creating a buzz in the social networking circle.

I realized some time ago the benefits of using social networking sites like BlogCatalog, and am beginning to understand the best advertisement for your blog could be word-of-mouth.

The main reason for this post is to create a huge tidal wave of information about BlogCatalog, and was the brainchild of fellow BC’er, monawea of iwebis fame. You can read more about the BlogCatalog Buzz Experiment here. I’m hoping this type of promotion will provide some exposure to my site and generate a little extra traffic and some regular readers.

The main things I like about BlogCatalog are it’s ease of use, the fantastic community spirit, the discussion area and the widgets you can add to your blog. The folks who run BlogCatalog are also keen to improve the way things are run and will listen to your ideas/comments. For example, I wanted to submit my site to the Sports category, but no suitable sub-category existed. One quick email to the support group and a brand new Running category was added. How’s that for service?

Well, it was not just only ‘inspired by’ but also copied verbatim from your post!

I think I sent you a msg in the ShoutBox saying that I did it. Monawea had a deadline and I had like four minutes to meet it…

    I’m glad you’re not mad at me…

I do like BlogCatalog, but I don’t like the widgets or any widgets for that matter. They clutter up my layout…
