In this digital age, sometimes I muse if we would miss books at some point in time. It’s kinda hard to imagine such a scenario, because we’re taking books for granted today. They’re there–in the newsstands, libraries and perhaps even some in our showcases at home. You understand of course that I’m not talking about the print media. Books. Real paper and bound, paperbacks or hardbound.
Fiction or non-fiction. What I feel about books borders on the passionate–because only books can make me think. I mean, you can watch a Harry Potter movie or you can read a Harry Potter book. My 12-year-old niece tells me that the book gives her wings. He’s closer to Harry Potter and his friends, and he paints a vivid picture in his mind of all of Harry’s adventures.
On the other hand, you perhaps may be able to enjoy the same story in cinematic settings with vivid sound and special effects that take your breath away. But they are being given to you on a platter. Your mental faculties hardly get opportunity to ‘think.’ Sitting down and reading a good book is a great exercise to the mind and it never fails to provide you with a window to make your own judgments in everyday life, because you understand people just a little better.
