One of the common devices generally taken for granted in hospitals, healtcare units and schools is the utility cart. What goes without saying is the concern for safety, from the cleanliness and the reliability point of view.
The utility cart must be sturdy and preferably have locking wheels to prevent unintended rolling or slipping. Four heavy duty casters are reccommended for sturdiness and safety while transporting medicines, food and linen. By far, metal carts are the easiest to sanitize against the spread of bacteria.
Plastic utility carts, constructed from injection-molded thermoplastic, are also available. This plastic will not chip, warp, crack, rust or peel. Tuffy AV cart, maufactured by DR Instruments, comes with 4-inch full swivel ball bearing casters and two with locks. It is also equipped with a 3-outlet UL/CSA approved electrical assembly for power supply.
